Chief James Reyes scores PBA nod in crowded Miami-Dade sheriff’s race

The South Florida Police Benevolent Association, formerly the Dade County PBA, announced on Tuesday their endorsement of Miami-Dade Public Safety Chief Jems “James” Reyes in the historic election for Miami-Dade sheriff, the first since the 1950s.

“In his current role as our Chief of Public Safety, James has demonstrated his commitment to law and order and providing our officers with the resources they need to do their jobs more safely and effectively,” PBA President Steadman Stahl said in a statement. “As we navigate this transition from the Miami-Dade Police Department into an independent Sheriff’s Office, we have confidence in Chief Reyes at the helm because of his proven high-level command experience in a Sheriff’s Office, tireless advocacy for our officers, and above all his commitment to public safety.”

Alex Diaz de la Portilla wants estranged wife to pay divorce attorney, trial fees

As he defends himself on 14 public corruption charges in criminal court, former Miami Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla is going on the offensive in divorce court, filing a counter motion for dissolution of marriage and demanding that his wife not only split the marital assets — like jewelry and designer clothing — but also pay his legal fees and all court costs.

Vanessa Garcia Azzam filed for divorce in January and stated in her motion that there were no marital assets. This answer from Alejandro Manuel Diaz de la Portilla was filed June 24 and disputes that.

Coral Gables commission to consider IG office question for November ballot

Ken Griffin gives half mil to Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava

Citadel founder Ken Griffin, who wants to build a $1 billion tower in Downtown Miami for his company’s new headquarters, gave $500,000 to Our Democracy, the political action committee for incumbent Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, who is defending her throne from six challengers.
