Longshot Miami-Dade Sheriff wannabe insults, offends everyone in web video
In his second video as Gino the Magnificent, Miami-Dade sheriff candidate Jeffrey Giordano — a long shot poking fun at the November election and some the 17 candidates in the clown car — manages to offend women, blacks, short people, union members, seniors and even phlebotomists.
It’s Part 2 to his first posted video as Gino, a take on Johnny Carson’s skit where he portrayed Carnac the Magnificent. In the first video, posted in February, Giordano took pot shots at candidates Ignacio Alvarez, Jasper Bishop, Ruamen de la Rua, Alex Fornet, Joe Sanchez and retired MDPD Lt. Rickey Mitchell, calling the funeral home owner “Grim Reaper Mitchell,” and “the only candidate who will profit from multiple deaths in Dade County.”
Democrats launch anti Donald Trump abortion ban billboards across Florida
The extreme six-week abortion ban goes into effect in Florida Wednesday, so it’s a perfect time to remind voters that Donald Trump and the rest of the MAGA Republicans, like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, are the ones responsible for ripping away women’s reproductive rights.
And just in time for the presidential election, the Democratic National Committee launched a bilingual billboard campaign across the state to bring attention to the connection between Trump and the Draconian abortion bans sweeping the country. Abortion is now banned in every state across the south except Virginia. Both in English and Spanish, the DNC billboards are to be located in high-traffic areas in the cities of Tampa, Orlando, Gainesville and, yes, Miami, putting the number of miles between the women there and safe abortion procedures in Virginia.

It started as a bold move by a newly-elected and reform-minded city commissioner to right a terrible wrong. But the ordinance to amend regulations that allow giant LED signs in Miami has been stalled over and over.
Commissioner Damian Pardo, who has also sought a temporary moratorium on any new sign permits, will try again Thursday.
Miami Commission considers Inspector General question on August ballot
If there ever was a municipality that needs an independent inspector general, it is the city of Miami.
One commissioner who was suspended after his September arrest on 11 felony charges, including bribery and money laundering, in connection with is vote to give away a public park. Another former commissioner is being investigated for promising a city job in exchange for an endorsement. The mayor is embroiled in an FBI investigation over other bribery allegations in “consulting” payments made by a developer who was seeking permits and concessions from the city at the time. And the city manager has given incomplete accounts of the hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of office furniture that the city has purchased from his wife’s family business.

Selection board of lobbyists choose George Wysong for Miami City attorney
Less than two weeks after removing Miami City Attorney Vicky Mendez from her position earlier this month and demoting her to a transitional, ceremonial post, commissioners could name a permanent replacement on Thursday. And Interim City Attorney George Wysong is the recommendation from a selection committee made almost entirely of land use and zoning lobbyists.
He basically already has the job. An item about the city attorney selection on the commission meeting agenda for Thursday has been withdrawn.
