New shady deals found at Miami Omni CRA, tied to Alex Diaz de la Portilla
After his arrest on public corruption charges in the giveaway of a public park to a private school for more than $300,000 in campaigns contributions and gifts — vacations, accommodations, food, booze — disgraced Miami Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla was suspended from office.
Then, officials found even more graft.
Ralph Cutié picks Miami-Dade over Coral Gables after PAC text attack
The possibility that Miami-Dade Aviation Director Ralph Cutié would become the next city manager in Coral Gables was very short-lived.
On Tuesday, Cutié — who oversees operations at the beleaguered Miami International Airport — was named as a potential (preferred?) replacement for City Manager Peter Iglesias, whose third vote for termination from Commissioner Kirk Menendez seemed contingent on that point. On Thursday, the word was out: Cutié ain’t jumping.

La Alcaldesa’s camp responds to Manny Cid’s PAC attack on her $2.5 bil bond
The campaign for the re-election of Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava responded quickly and harshly to the 30-second web video ad launched Sunday by Miami Lakes Mayor Manny Cid, who is challenging La Alcaldesa this year, attacking her $2.5 billion bond initiative.
And the gist is that Cid himself has pushed for tax increases.
Manny Cid PAC hits Mayor Daniella Levine Cava on $2.5 billion bond
Here’s a commercial you didn’t see during the Super Bowl.
The first and anticipated video attacking Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava for her $2.5 billion bomb, er, bond initiative, revealed last month at the State of the County address, is out. It’s not on TV. It will probably be on a smart phone near you soon, in the form of a text message. It is paid for by a political action committee chaired by Miami Lakes Mayor Manny Cid, the mayor’s only true challenger.
Sabina Covo is under investigation for promising job, contract in election
Former Miami Commissioner Sabina Covo, who ran on a platform of fighting corruption, is currently under investigation for “remuneration by candidate for services, support, etc. and bribery.”
Remuneration? Yeah, that means promises of money or jobs by a candidate for support of her candidacy and it is illegal under Florida Statute 104.071.

Sweet deal giveaway of public city park to school could and should be reversed
Miami City Commissioners will get another chance this week to take back a public park and reverse a vote that was basically bought through public corruption and led to the September arrest of former Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla on bribery and money laundering charges.
In April of 2022, Diaz de la Portilla convinced his colleagues to give away the city-owned Biscayne Park, right next to historic Miami City Cemetery, to The Centner Academy so they could build a “state-of-the-arts” sports center (read: gym) for their students and also for profit.
“Senator” Alex Diaz de la Portilla hosts after party in Tally for Dade Days event
He may be under arrest on bribery and money laundering charges. He may have lost an election. He may have lost his house to foreclosure. He may be served with divorce papers by his new wife.
But former Miami Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla sure knows how to party.
