What a sore loser!
Coral Gables Mayor Vince Lago, who is still butt hurt about his two pocket candidates losing in April, is all of a sudden pushing for a change to a November election.
The sunshine meeting Tuesday evening in Coral Gables was supposed to be a workshop for the city’s budget. Everyone expected to hear Mayor Vince Lago‘s ideas to bring the “millage” or tax rate down.
That didn’t happen.
Change could give Mayor Vince Lago an additional 20 months in office
Former Coral Gables Commissioner Jeannett Slesnick, a class act who was involved in many civic organizations and served as First Lady of the City Beautiful for 10 years, died Thursday evening after a long battle with cancer. She was 75.
Slesnick, wife of former Mayor Don Slesnick (2001-2010), was first diagnosed with lymphoma in 2014 and also fought back breast cancer in 2016, one year after she won election as a commissioner. She did six weeks of radiation and went into remission. Then the lymphoma returned in 2020 and there was more chemo to beat it back. Until it returned again earlier this year, Jeannett said in an email sent to friends in June, warning them that she had little time left.

Three months after the April election, in which his chosen slate lost to two independent commission candidates, Lago is still being petty and vindictive with the victors. This week, he cropped them out of the photo he posted on Twitter from the Fourth of July celebration at The Biltmore Hotel.
Newly-elected Coral Gables Commissioner Melissa Castro was so excited about her first commission meeting on Tuesday, nothing would faze her. Her car wouldn’t start, her heel got stuck in the elevator door, the Uber driver turned the wrong way and made her a few minutes late. But none of it mattered.
She was so psyched about her first chance to serve the residents that she took it all in stride. She was so happy to be there and so concentrated on the items in front of her, that she didn’t realize Mayor Vince Lago had been a condescending jerk, treating her like a little girl.
