Miami-Dade Mayor’s race
It’s over. There will be no runoff for the Miami-Dade mayor’s post.
In what was not a close race at all, La Alcaldesa Daniella Levine Cava won with 58% of the vote in the primary that ended Tuesday. Miami Lakes Mayor Manny Cid beat five other challengers to get second place and it was still only 23%.

There are seven candidates on the ballot for Miami-Dade Mayor. But really, there are only two.
Eddy Rojas, who owns a valet parking company, is way out of his league here. Alex Otaola, a Cuban-American actor, comedian and podcaster who doesn’t speak English, is out of his mind. Unfortunately, so are the hundreds who will vote for him because of his ridiculous anti-communist platform. Carlos Garín, a TV personality, is a fish out of water. And while Ladra really likes Miguel “El Skipper” Quintero, the trapeze artist who is running just to bring attention to what he says is a double standard in code enforcement, we all know he’s out on a limb.

Giving yet another indication that he is not a serious candidate for the Miami-Dade mayor’s seat, Alex Otaola, an activist, actor and podcaster with a penchant for the outrageous and a large Cuban-American following, chickened out of a meet-and-greet forum Monday that he had previously agreed to.
Otaola told the president of the Kendall Federation of Homeowners Associations Monday morning that he was too busy. Apparently, he is too busy for a telephone interview with Ladra because Diana, his handler, also cancelled Political Cortadito’s appointment with Otaola that we had for Wednesday.

A trapeze artist in a war with the county who is running a symbolic mayoral campaign against Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava was told last week that he can’t have his nickname on the ballot because it “is being used to mislead voters.”
Miguel “El Skipper” Quintero has gone by that name for years, he says. And he may appeal the decision, which he says was arbitrary, violating his due process. Quintero also says the decision indicates bias.
