Residents in Miami Springs must be pretty happy with what they got. Nobody challenged Mayor Maria Puente Mitchell and Councilman Walter Fajet, who won automatically weeks ago when nobody filed to run against them. And voters returned two council members to the dais on Tuesday.

Both Councilwoman Jacky Bravo and former Councilman Victor Vazquez, who had resigned to run for county commission last year (losing in the first round), were returned to office. Bravo beat Jennifer Graham, president of the Miami Springs Historical Society, 54% to 46%.

Gables Neighbors United, the political arm of the largest group of active and engaged Coral Gables residents, has endorsed political newcomer Melissa Castro for the commission seat in Group 4.

Gables United already endorsed activist Ariel Fernandez, publisher of Gables Insider, in the Group 5 race against attorney Alex Bucelo, who has the backing of the mayor at least two commissioners and lots of real estate development interests to fund his misinformation and attack campaign.

A group of active and engaged — and fed-up — residents of Coral Gables has sent out an email blast endorsing Ariel Fernandez in the city election, calling his opponent the “developer’s insider.”

Attorney Alex Bucelo, who lost a bid two years ago to Commissioner Kirk Menendez, has the development and real estate investment money in his campaign account and his political action committee to back up the claim.
