The process for redistricting is still going on in Miami and at the state level (more on that later), but Miami-Dade County is done. Finito. Commissioners approved new boundaries last week after a few last minute amendments.
And there was zero opposition. Zero lawsuits threatened. Zero drama. Probably because there were no huge changes and nothing opposed by any of the current commissioners.
Holy moly! Wednesday’s Miami-Dade Commission meeting is going to be a doozy.
According to the agenda, the last meeting of the year is heavy-loaded with several big ticket items. According to some County Hall insiders, any one of them could turn into a thing.
City commissioners in Miami could officially give the redistricting consulting contract to Miguel de Grandy on Thursday.
That’s expected. The contract was taken from former State Sen. Bill Galvano, a pal of Commissioner Alex Diaz de la Portilla, last month and De Grandy was already spoken of as the chosen replacement.
