What ‘free state of Florida’ is he talking about?
It’s not that it’s an attack against Congressman Charlie Crist that has people riled up. We expect that. Heck, we like it. It’s more like the tacit endorsement of guardianship programs that often target and abuse the elderly that is rubbing people the wrong way.
And it’s a blatant dis to our querida Britney Spears.
The 2022 State of the State delivered by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was more a continued tour for his national profile than a report on the Sunshine State. All state-of addresses are really craftily disguised campaign speeches. But DeSantis seemed adamant to let his White House ambitions show.
The guv said some form of the word free or freedom at least a dozen times. He took a gratuitous swipe at Dr. Anthony Fauci and called what we can assume is the Center for Disease Control a “coercive biomedical apparatus.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis had to know that his stance against mask mandates in public schools — and his threat to defund schools and take away the salaries of school officials who defy him — would become campaign fodder for the 2022 election. He didn’t have to wait long.
