The $2.5 million bond proposal that Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava surprised on everyone at the State of the County address Wednesday has not been well received by everyone — especially some members of the county commission, which would need to approve any ballot measure.

When Miami Mayor Francis Suarez delivers his State of the City address on Tuesday, he should open with a general apology to the residents and business owners who have had to put up with not just the crappy conditions of streets and parks and services, but also the corruption that permeates the dais, the city attorney’s office and even his pay-to-play deals with developers and other business interests.

The Coral Gables commission decided not to jump on the lawsuit that 12 cities have joined to challenge a new law that requires all municipal electeds to submit a Form 6 financial disclosure instead of a Form 1 — with much more information about income and sources of income than before.

Passed with overwhelming bipartisan support, the new law requires more transparency from city and town electeds.

The city of Coral Gables wants to terminate the lease with Fritz & Franz Bierhaus — a German restaurant that has become very popular, especially for soccer games — but has given the owner three weeks to come up with a proposal at market value rent so he can stay.

This is the restaurant where both Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez waited to hear that FIFA had chosen Miami as a location for the 2026 World Cup.
