Miami Police moved quickly to find the man who tried to break into a city truck last week that belongs to Commissoner Manolo Reyes‘ office.

A member of the commissioner’s staff noticed damage to the driver’s side window and reported the burglary attempt at Coral Gate Park, 1425 SW 32nd Ave., about 9:30 a.m. Monday, in front of the District 4 office, and called police.

Zilber, the disgraced former Miami-Dade Circuit judge who resigned after an ethics investigation found he mistreated staff and stole $30,000 from taxpayers playing hooky, lost the special election to fill the seat in Miami’s District 2, where Ken Russell resigned to run for Congress (and lost the primary). He came in fourth in a race where the buzz was ABZ, or Anyone But Zilber.

Most people in Pinecrest seem to like things the way they are.

Voters on Tuesday rejected a charter amendment that would have required a 60% referendum vote on any zoning or land use change in the city. A small group of residents were in favor. Elected officials and a larger group of residents fought the effort.

Police are still investigating the burglary at Miami Commissioner Manolo Reyes‘ office at City Hall last week. Monday, someone tried to break into one of the commissioner’s Community Response Team trucks (he has two).

Most don’t think the two crimes are related. The commissioner’s office was ransacked, but nothing seems to have been stolen. The truck was not at City Hall. It was parked at the Coral Gate office. Sources say the video shows what looks like a homeless man, who likely wanted to steal a chainsaw and other tools from inside, try to pry the door open with a shovel.
