Newly-elected Hialeah Mayor Esteban Bovo replaced Police Chief Sergio Velazquez Monday, but it reportedly had nothing to do with the dressing down of a sergeant at his swearing-in ceremony last week.

Bovo relieved Velazquez of duty and named George Fuente the interim chief as he starts a national search for a new permanent top cop. The 24-year-veteran was No. 2 in the department and it is “protocol” for him to assume the job, the mayor explained.

Just two weeks after, finally, announcing she would run for Florida Governor next year, State Sen. Annette Taddeo has already amassed more than $650,000 in contributions between her campaign account and her political action committee.

This isn’t reflected yet on the Florida Division of Elections page, but her political consultant, Christian Ulvert, said it would be in the October report that is to be filed Wednesday.

Angelica Pacheco, who made the runoff for a Hialeah council seat last week, was arrested twice in the past. Once for assault in what she said was self defense against an abusive man and once for child abuse in what she said was a misunderstanding. But she used a belt.

Ladra didn’t even know about the assault charge when she called Pacheco Sunday to ask her about the arrest. Pacheco — who faces Bryan Calvo Nov. 16 — must have thought she meant her first arrest.

Homestead Mayor Steve Losner hung on to his seat, winning re-election Tuesday by a small margin against former Councilman Elvis Maldonado, who had bounced back from a lost county commission race. Final score: 51 to 49%.
