There are live elections today in four of Miami-Dade’s biggest cities: Miami, Hialeah, Miami Beach and Homestead. Some offer a little more drama than others.

In Miami, there are two seats up for grabs. Commissioner Manolo Reyes is also on the ballot but he is pretty much in like Flint. No muss, no fuss.

Congratulations are in order for Miami Beach Commissioner Mark Samuelian. The city election is not until Nov. 2, but Samuelian won re-election to his seat last week when a judge ruled that his challenger be removed from the ballot because he was not qualified to run.

Fabian Basabe, a New York City transplant socialite and reality TV alum turned real estate pro, filed paperwork to run in the Group 2 race earlier this month, saying he lived on Belle Isle. But records show Basabe voted in Bay Harbor Islands in the 2020 general election.

There are 16 people running for four seats in Miami Beach, but many of them are somewhat known to voters already.

They include incumbent Mayor Dan Gelber and Commissioner Mark Samuelian, former Commissioner Kristin Gonzalez Rosen, who left her office to run for Congress, and repeat candidates Stephen Cohen, Blake Young, Raquel Pacheco, Michael “Mike B” Barrineau and Adrian Gonzalez, the well known owner of David’s Cafe.
