A pair of South Florida legislators — one Democrat, the other Republican — are trying again to allow for the installation of speed cameras to enforce the limit in school zones.

The effort died last year but Sen. Ana Maria Rodriguez (R-Doral) — whose bill passed committee Thursday — and State Rep. Nick Duran (D-Miami) have made changes in how the citation revenue is distributed between the state and the local municipal agencies enforcing the law.

After an October press conference on former Miami Police Chief Art Acevedo‘s controversial and politically-motivated dismissal, Mayor Francis Suarez left his talking points on a podium for all to see. Among the people copied on the email with the talking points and packaged answers to potential questions was Otto Boudet.

The name didn’t mean anything to Ladra but others noted that some high falutin’ developer type had gone to work in the mayor’s office.

The city of Miami has sued a mayoral candidate for $3,400 in court costs after she was disqualified from the race on the grounds that she didn’t meet the residency requirements.

In case anyone was wondering, Mayra Joli — a one-time Coral Gables commission candidate who campaigned in the Miami mayoral race last month, even though she was disqualified by a judge — would have come in third.
